Candle Care
Candle Care Guide
Crafted with care. Designed to be cherished.
A beautiful burn begins with a little candle mindfulness. Here’s how to get the very best from your Pour To Order creations—because every flame deserves a bit of love.
1. Find Your Signature Scent
You’ve got options. Whether you’ve curated your own bespoke range or chosen one of our hand-crafted blends, find the candle that speaks to your brand's story—and your senses.
2. Trim to Perfection
Keep your wick neatly trimmed between burns (we recommend around 5mm). A shorter wick means a cleaner, safer burn and helps your candle last longer.
3. Let It Pool
For a full-bodied scent throw and an even burn, allow the top layer of wax to fully melt edge-to-edge on each burn—especially the first one. This prevents tunnelling and memory rings.
4. Burn Safe, Burn Smart
Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, flammable materials, and out of reach of pets or curious little hands. Never leave a lit candle unattended.
5. Know When to Say Goodbye
Once around ½ inch of wax remains, it's time to gently retire your candle. This protects both the container and your surfaces from heat stress as the jar base becomes exposed.
First Burn Matters
The first time you light your candle, aim for 1 hour of burn time per inch of diameter. This allows the wax to melt evenly to the edge, preventing tunnelling. Once a “memory ring” forms, your candle will likely burn that way for life—so give it a strong start!
Wick Wisdom
Use a proper wick trimmer (or scissors if you're careful). Trim wicks only when the candle is cool and unlit. We suggest trimming after every 4 hours of burn time to maintain a safe and steady flame.
How to use a wick trimmer like a pro:
- Place it flush with the wax surface
- Tilt slightly until the elbow rests gently against the wax
- Snip and remove the trimmed wick
- Relight for a clean, consistent burn
Burn Time Tips
We recommend burning for no more than four hours at a time. Let the candle cool for at least two hours before relighting—your jar (and your nose) will thank you.
A Note on Warmers
To preserve the quality and integrity of your jar, we advise against using external heat sources like candle warmers. They can overheat the base and cause stress to the glass.
Stay Safe
It goes without saying—but we’ll say it anyway. Always burn candles away from anything flammable, and never leave them unattended. Keep flames well out of reach of children, pets, or high-traffic areas.
